Sesani:Usually we desis tend to always agree to the tasks we get, even though we have enough on our plate.. Manam NO cheppadam chaala takkuva ani naa feeling... We just take it up if anybody pushes little aggressively... The reason may be because of the fear of losing job or coming straight from india we feel that this is our opportunity to prove.. what ever the reason is... Recent ga oka sambar manager tagulkunnadu.. typical desi manager.. ... he simply delegates work... vaadi plate la unnadi he just assigns it to somebody and sends an email CCing everybody... Last week he started doing it to me.. I started resisting in the beginning but used to take one or 2 tasks here n there.. finally told him (exact same words) - "If you are expecting me take up these objects, I can't. If you have a problem talk to the PMO and Process Manager". He got irritated and emotional black mailing started.. 'We as a team should work.. u already know the process, u already know the team blah blah'... he started playing dirty tricks already.. On the flip side naa Marathi colleague.. very smart fella... He never says NO to anybody... literally never... he just says Ya ya sure... i will take care of it and he just ignores the emails and finally sends it to off shore or he himself creates a high priority tasks talking to the business... Saying NO is an art...
my standard response to these kind of folks "sure i dont mind doing that. but i have these x,y and z things on my plate. what is the priority on this one. do you want me to put a hold on everything i am doing and take care of this first or wait till everything is done" this should take of it |

Guru:Instead of saying No, you give them list of all items in your plate and ask them to prioritize. When they realize your plate is full, they will look for alternate options. You can also ask for help, so u can manage and get the work done by someone else
Idi perfect, Nenu ide use chestaanu.. Maa manager ni involve chestaanu.. And ask him to prioritize and will say them that some of the other tasks may be delayed. Saying no anni times lo kudatadu kudaa.. It all depends on priority and we just need to make sure thatwe update time line for the other tasks |

Sesani:How will you deal with somebody who is superior to you in the hierarchy and just keep dumping his tasks on u... there will be a point where u will say NO regardless of the criticality... u already have ur plateful
then simbly make an excel sheet (not the DB MEGA) listing all with expected time to finish. List his tasks below and ask him to fill in the priority and importance. if persists copy his manager and your other co-manager.. daridram vadultundi brahmaghnE cha eva suraapEcha chOrE bhagnavratE tadhaa! nishkrutir vihitaa sadbhihi, kRutaghne na asthi nishkruthi!!

Guru:Depends on the criticality. If it's a blue chip saying no will hurt. For everything else you have to prioritize and provide a timeline. Trying to bite more than you can chew will hurt.

What I have also noticed is with the increase of WITCH presence, slowly ikkada kuda the rat race has begun... I felt the exact same thing when I was in Blore with Infosys for a month... People want to just prove themselves by going to any extent.. in the process the whole political shit gets started... too much politics and ... too much appeasing. I m not saying it wasnt there before but this is getting to next level.. |
