My daughter got 35/36 in ACT, I/she choose a college that gives full ride and (she get $6000 stipend per year) UTD. So I am taking care of Dorm/meals/car and travel approx 12000/year. Once she completes pre-med, I am planning to just pay for living expenses as I am doing now.. medicine college fee will go on student loan.. once she is a doctor it is peanuts for them. | ||

This is 222 much... for IT guys, as a start you should put at least 500/month/kid as early as possible...increase it gradually.. 3.5k/mon saving for college is not realistic unless both working and making lots of money.. Kids don't pay full-tuition most of the time.. in state tuition for public schools is around 20k/year. for suppose you get into a Ivy league college.. they do get scholarships as they move towards graduation.. time baagopothe you can take loan..as its ivy league you are more certain to get a job and pay off debt..also they say good to give some debt to kids as they will be more responsible.. one last thing.. I haven't heard of positive reviews who lock up money in state sponsored plans...the savings you make on tax doesn't add up.. you can check Vanguard 529 (Nevada plan) .. you can use it to pay for college in any state and choose some good funds.. | ||

There are so many private universities which are costlier than ivy league.. good ones that one we expect our kids to go will be around $60 to $80k including boarding.. the average ones $40 to $60 and the one in-state or state colleges would be $20 to $40K.. | ||
