that is more than enough to start but i strongly suggest him to watch youtube cs50 course videos to get better insights on low level understanding, this is the best place to start for all programmers. Even i came from chemical engg to IT, I put lot of effort and i still put a lot to understand the basics as my education is not related to computers. I mean it differs from person to person. my personal preference is to have indepth knowledge on what i do, thats why i always goes back to basics. I started my career as a report developer and moved up to BI architect and supporting all back and front of databases. I struggled a lot during this transition which i don't want to face it again, So i started going back to basics and learning all the programming. How easy is it to change the career track completely after 40 years ? Cousin works in non-IT field... works as scientist in academic research... u get Doctorate etc but getting 80K per year is also very tough so planning to switch to IT IT ki jumpo ayithe testing easy emo but too much competition.. etl / reporting konchem pay but learning curve will be long any suggestions? has gc so that might help a little anukuntunna Don't say you don't have enough time.
