We'll begin with a box, and the plural is boxes,
But the plural of ox becomes oxen, not oxes.
One fowl is a goose, but two are called geese,
Yet the plural of moose should never be meese.
You may find a lone mouse or a nest full of mice,
Yet the plural of house is houses, not hice.
If the plural of man is always called men,
Then shouldn't the plural of pan be called pen?
If I speak of my foot and show you my feet,
And I give you a boot, would a pair be called beet?
If one is a tooth and a whole set are teeth,
Why shouldn't the plural of booth be called beeth?
Then one may be that, and three would be those,
Yet hat in the plural would never be hose,
And the plural of cat is cats, not cose.
We speak of a brother and also of brethren,
But though we say mother, we never say methren.
Then the masculine pronouns are he, his and him,
But imagine the feminine: she, shis and shim! Let's face it - English is a crazy language.
There is no egg in eggplant nor ham in hamburger;
neither apple nor pine in pineapple.
English muffins weren't invented in England .
We take English for granted, but if we explore its paradoxes,
We find that quicksand can work slowly, boxing rings are square,
And a guinea pig is neither from Guinea nor is it a pig. And why is it that writers write but fingers don't fing,
Grocers don't groce and hammers don't ham?
Doesn't it seem crazy that you can make amends but not one amend.
If you have a bunch of odds and ends
And get rid of all but one of them, what do you call it? If teachers taught, why didn't preachers praught?
If a vegetarian eats vegetables, what does a humanitarian eat?
Sometimes I think all the folks who grew up speaking English
Should be committed to an asylum for the verbally insane. In what other language do people recite at a play and play at a recital?
We ship by truck but send cargo by ship.
We have noses that run and feet that smell.
We park in a driveway and drive in a parkway.
And how can a slim chance and a fat chance be the same,
While a wise man and a wise guy are opposites? You have to marvel at the unique lunacy of a language
In which your house can burn up as it burns down,
In which you fill in a form by filling it out,
And in which an alarm goes off by going on. And, in closing, if Father is Pop, how come Mother's not Mop? And if people from Poland are called Poles
Then people from Holland should be Holes
And the Germans, Germs. And let's not forget the Americans, who changed s to z, but that's another story.

Right words at right time, Stammering is our weakness it comes with our accent

Trust me. Accent is the least of all my problems. I mess up grammar and vocabulary in every sentence I speak. Long pauses because I can't find the right word or phrase to speak. Abba dabba jabba. After all that, people still can't decipher what I say because of my South Indian accent.

No comedy. Dead serious.

Unless you jump into the waters
How will you learn to swim?
You can read all you want about swimming
But if you don't jump

You don't learn
And you drown

That I have no clue. My spoken English is worse than most of the folks here. So I can't advise. But I think the same rule applies. The more you talk, the better it becomes. Haven't had the chance to experience it myself though.

I hate to indulge in cliche ridden expressions. However, in this case, I do not know of any other way of expressing it as succinctly as the age old adage goes - Practice makes a man perfect. If you start writing, you improve your language. Can't you do the same by just reading more? How about a daily does of Time magazine or the Huffington Post? (For some weird reason, British Library thinks Huff Post is the greatest literary treasure one could lay one's hands on. I respectfully reserve my judgment)

Of course you can't go wrong with reading anything - even a Chetan Bhagat. You might occasionally end up splitting an infinitive here and there but there is no lasting damage to your language skills. The more you read, the better your language becomes. There is no denying that.

Having said that, imagine this. When you are reading, someone is spoon feeding you the great expressions leaping out of the page in front of you. You read them and you appreciate them. Some of it stays with you. Some you lose. You admire the poetry; the beauty of those words; the finesse of the writing; the soul of the book.

When you write, however, you are shaping those phrases. The words don't just leap out of your fingers on to the page. You need to conjure them up. You are the magician. It is your day. You are the creator. You have the sole responsibility of giving your thoughts and ideas a shape and a channel of expression. That is a big challenge. Charles Dickens or the Huff Post Editor is not there to handhold you now. All that you have is your mind and the thousands of hours of reading you've done so far. You are on your own there.

So carpe diem. Seize the day and start writing. One post a day on a topic that you love. It can be anything under the sun. A treatise on caste politics in UP? An essay on how to provide your dissent via single star ratings? A commentary on the role religion plays in contemporary India? Or simply an educative piece on what YSR Congress Party should do to win the next election in Andhra Pradesh.

Whatever the topic, frankly dear, I don't give a damn. Let it all flow. Let all your inhibitions go with the wind. You just focus on getting it right. Write it right. One post a day. That is all I ask for. In English. No Telugu words or expressions. At least a hundred words. Keep posting it regularly. If at the end of the 100th posting, your language has not improved - 100 day money back guarantee. Contact Secured Future.
