if s3 is controlled by ACL yes - my guess is all PaaS solutions where dedicated VMs are not involved will follow the same design and only few will be accessible from internet (like S3) RDS/SQS etc will be restricted to EC2 if through VPN/DC connection not sure may be it needs to proxy through some EC2 as VM sitting in my datacenter will have no ACL so u must front the PaaS through a custom service layer |

Nippu:they are multi-tenant things ; won;t sit in your VPC
Exactly. My point is - how do you restrict access to these things from the internet? Is a VPC tunnelling possible to these services so that they don't accept incoming connections from anywhere else? |

some of the pass components like SQS , SNS etc wont work in vpc. they are multi-tenant things ; won;t sit in your VPC (not 100% sure on RDS though); but others I know RDS does a dedicated EC2 provisioning for your need so possible ... |

Suppose I have a VPC and I have a few VMs inside it. If I want to use some of AWS PaaS services, can I have them within my VPC or they will have be peered to the VPC? I mean, can there be a dedicated PaaS instance inside a VPC or it will be outside the VPC perimeter but a tunnel is created to allow traffic only from resources within the VPC? Question mainly from a PaaS perspective. I know we can have infra as we like inside the VPC. |
