Rarely has a domestic match at this venue grabbed such attendance, but with Former India skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni at the centre, all the commotion was expected. With Vidarbha managing just 159, the crowd at the Air Force Sports Complex in Palam was waiting for their hero to come out to bat. Every time a batsman got out, the crowd started chanting 'Dhoni Dhoni' but the Jharkhand skipper wouldn't oblige. There were other batsmen who needed the batting practice much more than the senior pro. Many were sitting close to the boundary ropes while many were trying to catch a glimpse of action from the boundary wall adjacent to the main road. Finally, one of Dhoni's many fans jumped over the wall from outside the ground and rushed to the captain while he was at the crease. With a paper in his hand, the boy sought Dhoni's autograph and the Jharkhand skipper obliged him. The fan, ecstatic at his achievement, couldn't stop himself from touching the legendary Indian skipper's feet before he was escorted out of the field of play. It seemed like a matter of great pride for the fan as he walked out with his both arms up in the air. For the rest of the crowd, Dhoni obliged them by finishing the match with his trademark six over long-on fence to take his team into the semis with six wickets in hand. |
