The state government had identified 1,000 acres of sea-facing land for the initial phase. However, the project hit many roadblocks. A major hurdle was non-availability of a single parcel of 20,000 acres of land required for the project. Officials had not checked whether such a large parcel of land was available in Visakhapatnam, where the project was first proposed. After the tourism department failed to scout the land parcel, the state government handed over the task to the Andhra Pradesh Industrial Infrastructure Corporation (APIIC). It zeroed in on about 1,000 acres near the sea coast between Nellore and Kavali. The project was to be executed in three phases over 15 years. But according to sources, the government has not received any response from the firm to its request for revival of the MoU. Chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu made several enquiries with officials about the project not taking off as expected. There has been no communication between the firm and the state government in the last two months. | ||

As a part of the project, Suzlon had set up a rotor blade manufacturing unit in the district. He expressed confidence that the project would be completed successfully. Renewable energy solutions provider Suzlon Group has created facilities for generating 1,000 MWs of wind energy in Anantapur district of which 600 MWs was being generated, said Chairman of Suzlon Energy Tulsi Tanti at the CII Partnership Summit here on Friday. âBy May or so, the capacity would be enhanced to 1,000 MWs of wind energy,â he added.
