Finally completed watching both the movies... Given all the hype, hoopla and grandeur, I think this Sankranthi is special for TFI in many ways and there was no way I was gonna abstain from giving my 2 cents on both these movies of Stalwarts. Khaidi 150: The Good - Chiranjeevi. Whether you are a fan or not, you cannot miss his magic on screen. First thing which struck me was, Damn! This guy is one good actor. Especially in the flashback with the farmers, he rocked in the emotional scenes. It's a shame tht we miss this Chiranjeevi who keeps giving vry few guest appearances like these and we get more of Bossu-Graccuu more than we like it. Of course, he was charming with his dances and body language. The songs were a treat to watch on the screen too. The Not So Good - Ahem....Everything else nearly. No one except Chiru has any scope to perform. Villian is pathetic. Kajal wasted. Outdated Comedy scenes straight from Alluda Majaaka. Somehow the treatment of the movie itself felt old. Direction was a let down frankly. Review - Considering it was a landmark film for Chiru and all hyped up, I expected a better product than what came out. While it was good in parts and Chiru made it interesting, the movie overall didn't seem to have a flow. The theme itself abt Farmers and Land Pooling didn't feel like a burning issue that we have now and hence the connect seemed less. I didn't understand the 'Corporate' bashing throughout the movie and felt it went overboard. "If street boys start eating eggs, where shall we get eggs for making Shampoos?" WTF was tht line all abt? Anyways, Chiranjeevi, his emotional scenes and the catchy songs n dances covered up for many flaws making it watchable, if not worthy of Chiranjeevi's Landmark film. Bottomline: One time Watch for Chiranjeevi. Gautami Putra Satakarni: This one I was eager to watch for 2 things: 1. Krish - Am a huge fan of his work 2. Satakarni - Was really eager to check out the story of this great emperor, especially after all the pre release hype. The Good: Krish has to be an absolute genius to have finished this movie within 3 months of going onto sets. Just tells us of the meticulous planning and bound script pattern followed by the director. The Locations, Visuals and even the costumes were simply mind blowing and on a never before scale in TFI, unlike Bahubali which more relied on expensive Graphics to get the feel. And the dialogues were so fantastic n so many of them, we simply tend to forget them. Balakrishna was Satakarni personified. Believe he suits certain genres and roles extremely well and this Historical Biopic is one of those. I wasn't convinced abt his look in the trailers, but he felt pretty fine in the movie itself. Shreya did a great job as a conflicted queen. BGM was terrific especially towards climax with Title score. Cinematography was brilliant. Not So Good: Well, a lil more sneak peek into the life and times of Satakarni wud had been nice. Fights cud have been choreographed even more effectively with the right tempo rising (think SSR). Balakrishna himself cud have been a lil more fitter with better styling. Review: Historical Biopics are one of the toughest genre to recreate on Screen as its difficult to fit in a life story within 3 hrs. In tht sense, Krish has done a smart job by focussing on one aspect of GPSK's life - His Conquests and the why and how associated with it. This helped him keep the movie short and tight. This is a movie which is more than worthy to fit in any actor's resume for a landmark movie and Balakrishna has hit the bullseye in tht regard. This is not just a great landmark for him but shall go down as a classic. There are flaws yes, but the good parts in the movies way outweigh the shortcomings where you simply can't help but appreciate the director for coming up with such a quality product given the time and budget constraints. Bottomline: A great achievement by Krish and Balakrishna to have unearthed a lil gem and a must watch in theatres. P.S: End of story, it was full meals watching both the movies and Chiru/Bala did a fabulous job. They stuck to their respective strengths and were great in their roles. They went on to prove tht age is just a number and one can achieve all the glory at anytime one chooses to given the right determination and effort. This is a great lesson to us, most of us who think our life is done n dusted by 35-40. Hoping tht they continue to do great movies and memorable characters which do justice to their talent and serve as an inspiration to the nxt gen of actors.
