yo8u are confusing me completely. Lets say you are making 300K. after all deductions your final regular tax is calculated as 75K. Under AMT, your tax should be 83K. so govt orders you to pay the balance 8k also in addition to 75K. Normally the tax we pay will be above AMT so the issue never raises. AMT ante after you made all deduction, you are paying x dollars as tax. If x is certain % of your income and is deemed less, then AMT kicks in. This is to prevent people to skip taxes completely by showing lot of deductions and expenses.
