That is the essence of demonetization and other steps to come. Nehru and Indira treated people as beggars with their socialist schemes. Modi is treating people as thieves. This is a result of some bureaucrats and insiders telling chaiwala how much money government is "losing" because of cash transactions. If he was wiser like Bajpayee or PV he would have asked how much of that tax money is properly spent. Instead his chaiwala brain immediately got into attack mode into how to get everyone in line even if it means hurting millions of poor and middle class people. His coterie might even be full of people from big retail chains like reliance who benefit from doodhwalas and small vegetable vendors going out of business just like Tata and Birla being beneficiaries of license raj in Nehru time. Truth will come out in coming years and decades as to who had the chaiwala's ear like the bombay club had Nehru's ear and they pretty much wrote India's economic policy in those days. Bhakts are not realizing that this is a slippery slope of oppression and tyranny where people cannot spend money they earn and their way of life is completely destroyed just because they trusted an uneducated tyrant blindly. Manmohan's corruption age will look golden age by the end of Modi's tyrannical term. |
