A couple of days after the government's move, Singh discovered that he didn't have enough dough buy himself a cup of coffee. He ran from pillar to, well, pillar in the central hall of Parliament, trying to get someone to buy him a cuppa.

Singh asked finance minister Arun Jaitley, but he was not carrying any cash. Finally NCP leader Sharad Pawar fished out a 100 rupee note from his pocket (no surprises there) and was about to hand it over to Singh, when RJD chief Lalu Prasad Yadav's daughter Misa Bharti, who was recently elected to the Rajya Sabha, appeared out of nowhere and plucked the note out of Pawar's hand.

She told Singh she could call dibs on the money, since she was among the youngest politicians in Parliament.

For the record: the Parliament canteen does not accept credit or debit cards.
