You are mistaken..I support this act very much..
But I don't support the reintroduction. Very bad idea as it will lead to the same problem again down the line.

they will easily direct the 2000 notes to them. Leading to short supply to other middle and lower income

that's fine..say lot of 2000 notes move to big players..fine .but whole crux of this act is... from tomorrow..if any small aam aadmi want to take any amount of cash more than 10 laksh etc... bhayapadathaaru... vadhu baabu...I want clear bank transactions ani... even if 10-20% demand this..tht itself is big result..

Filmbuff:

This advance notice would have given a huge leg up to the consumption spends and this quarter GDP would have doubled

While this is true in administrative/GDP terms... all bad goons will find many means and ways if given 2-3 months notice..

Also, main rumour paaaki supported organisations...last few years lo fake notes chaalaa flush chesaaru ani talk..

I know so called suit boot economist..will come with posilshed words, with data saying this should have done this way that way... But...emi thought saami... one of the best decision taken by any politician in my living memory..

paraleel economy naduputhunnaru...50 crores turnovers chestooo 100 rs tax koodaa kattaledhu..lot of badaaa janatha...

A senior banker told me that a better solution could have been planned. He said that instead of taking out black money from the system, we should have given a 2 month time for weeding out all 500/1000 notes. This advance notice would have given a huge leg up to the consumption spends and this quarter GDP would have doubled, earned more service tax and excise to the govt, cleared out all excess capacity that is bogging the manufacturing sector and then after 2 months one can ban those balance notes. So instead of "killing" the black money, it could have come into the formal sector and boosted the economy.

initial feelers prakaram they'll reduce the amount of money in circulation

Supply side reduction 'll have its own arachkalu

1) Bank manager telisi vunte (most of them in cahoots with whos who) they will easily direct the 2000 notes to them. Leading to short supply to other middle and lower income folks.

2) Beyond this, 2000 note short supply will lead to big demand and creates a vicious loop of its own ( For ex., hoarders will have no compunction in paying 100 extra for each note from other junta.. note it self part a black market..easily you can see where this is going..LOL)

Konda nalekki mandu vesthe vunda nalika voodipoyindi ani...LOL
2000 denom is a horrible abomination

alu high denom teesoyochu kadaa?? why reintroduce 2000 and 1000...it defeats the entire purpose.. right

initial feelers prakaram they'll reduce the amount of money in circulation so will be harder to horde but let's see how it'll pan out.

Moreover with our inflation we can't just do with 100 rupee notes being the highest denomination and going the plastic way is not possible with our illiteracy

Would be good to see how this will affect GDP in the coming months.

GDP will contract mostly in q3. Rural economy might take 3-4 quarters to recover. More than anything I feel this was a good way to recapitalise banks. Banks should be encouraged to start lending now.

logically I'm thinking they have to convert the money into an more common format before depositing into a off shore bank right? otherwise the offshore bank would liable for the Black money is it not?

Filmbuff:

benami holdings.

In that case Dont the binamis hold black money? dont the binamis loose it all?

We are extremely fortunate to have a ringside view of the entire demonetisation episode. A few thoughts

- This has definitely shaken the entire Marvadi/ Bania/ Gujju community 'bigly'. They might find a way out and i know that they are trying their best to wriggle out but the fact by buying gold, backdating some purchases and invoices etc etc but they will have to take a steep hit. I also admire Modi that he has taken this step, ignoring the impact on their traditional trader vote bank

- The really rich folks could hardly care less, they would have squirreled away their money in offshore accounts and benami holdings. It is the middle class, black money that would be hurt most.

- To those who are wondering - why Rs2000 notes, our feelers are that the number of Rs2000 notes will be far fewer in number than the 500 and 1000 notes.

- This is a great move for most middle class, who are being squeezed out by high inflation, real estate prices, high interest rates. However hurts many home practitioners like tuition teachers, doctors, who earn a lot of money and are not paying taxes. For instance, in my apartments there are tuition teachers earning upto Rs1 lakh per month and don't pay taxes. They are literally in tears. Though they keep up the charade of supporting Modi in public.

- There will be a consumption drop for a few months in a lot of areas. The government should follow this up with a reduction in tax rates so that consumption can be boosted. Furthermore as bank deposits will rise, interest rates should also be reduced.

- A set of people who are most affected are folks like servants, beggars, small vendors etc. For instance, our servants keep some money with us in cash as their husbands squander away their savings. Now they are stuck, however i will deposit it in my account. But am sure many may not have this access. However this is a segment of society that most people forgot or ignored.

- While this will clean up a lot of stock, even the flow should be curtailed by strong enforcement. Without that this will be a periodic exercise.

Overall this is a very good move, difficulties for some time but nothing that unsurmountable for most people who are clean. Would be good to see how this will affect GDP in the coming months.
