Andhravodu:uber is an app based ride share, not taxi. Uber gives ride shares/car pools in bay area. not 54 cents a mile cheap though
If it's not cheaper than 54 cents per mile - then he has to report it to IRS as an income...and the driver has to pay tax on it. And it won't be "ride share" anymore. I've been using Scoop for carpool, in Bay Area, for the past month and a half...they're ok...improving...and they give the driver less than 54 cents per mile |

Bithiri_bathi:but eventually they will get there...it's a low barrier entry venture
google+ is a low barrier venture and it failed. Google vallu search & maps kakunda bayataku vachi google shopping, g+, zagat annitlo velu pettaru, none of those are anything noteworthy. Only search and maps along with android are successful http://giphy.com/gifs/new-york-giants-odell-beckham-jr-eli-manning-uV2RDVUm4AiIM |

Don't agree with this opinion...Uber/Lyft they don't have monopoly once another company comes up with cheaper fares, people will switch their loyalties... I agree that Google might not have the same level of infra or support but eventually they will get there...it's a low barrier entry venture...and with Google deep pockets they can get market share by offering discounts. |

Andhravodu:Uber
Uber is more like a taxi service right? The description below sounds more like "carpool/ride-share service" |

This looks good especially to increase occupancy of vehicles. However as far as getting profits or able to help for surge events its no competitor to Uber or Lyft ---------- Google is getting into the ride-sharing business, starting this fall. According to the Wall Street Journal, the tech giant tested a pilot program this spring around its San Francisco headquarters, enabling thousands of workers at particular companies to utilize Waze—a real-time driving directions app Google acquired in 2013—to connect with fellow commuters. Unlike top ride-sharing competitors Uber and Lyft, sources familiar with the Waze program say Google intends to make fares low enough to discourage drivers from acting as taxi drivers and encourage them to share rides with commuters already heading in a similar direction. As of now, the Journal reported, the pilot program charges riders at most 54 cents per mile. When the program is opened up to the general public, it will continue to only be available in San Francisco at first. |
