Gotcha:

Jake
Employer doesnt pay anything. U have to pay 1500$ or something

Gotcha, the document says Employer pays his share.

Goonda:

It wont be for entire 18 months. probably 3 or 6 months.

usually COBRA ki we pay the entire amount and employer lets you ride in his medical plan.. but in most of the cases i have seen, whenever there's a layoff, the employer provides COBRA and also pays for his share. But there will be a catch. It wont be for entire 18 months. probably 3 or 6 months.

Yup.. Stay with cobra with ur part .. Open enrollment starts on nov1st or dec 1st .. Then get a quote from local bcbs as there is no bargaining in that .. Straigt forward.. Choose better one for u r situation.

They give emplyer portion untill ur severence pay (6 months or less). The total amount will be from ur hand ..

if your employer is doing that then stay with COBRA and thank him. . How long will he do that? Usually COBRA is good for 18 months.

Yes; its for 18 months.. I believe thats what severance document says. I will cross check again.

employeer dose not pay anything towards COBRA. He will only let you to ride in his insurance plan and you will pay both employee and employer portion

King brother,
The severance package lists it clearly (I dont have it with me; will repost once I am home): Employer will cover his share as until now; we have to pay whatever is we used to pay. I was told it wont be much of a difference - as if we are still employed. I may have mis-interpreted it.. let me re-read the doc.

Laid off last week..

Have two options for medical insurance:
chose COBRA coverage; where employer pays his part for 18 months. I have to pay employee portion.. Not sure of final numbers on how much I have to pay.

OR

Go with obamacare as I have qualified event (layoff) and I can enroll. I am not sure plans in Obamacare are as good as my company plan. I see that family plan costs around 1100$ per month (I picked the one that has good coverage).

Does any of you have any ideas/experiences on which is better? What to look for?
