India at sports other than cricket.... My take: India relies heavily on gifted, talented, born with flair players for representation in other sports. Rather than relying on the motto, practice makes man perfect. Of course, no denying that, even other nations rely on born talented players but, it's not just them or nothing. For example, Phelps or bolt are definitely talented players but it's not just them that earn medals. There are others too... India, simply relies on finding and training such gifted players alone. Problem is, sports being high injury prone and requiring long term commitment with very small shelf life, many players get burnt out, some even before hitting international arena. Add to this the red Tapism and corruption prevalent in all our sports bodies, there is simply no way you will get consistent winners. We have to start approaching sports in a different way, where anyone could be a player, not just gifted ones. But, it's easy to make heroes out of gifted players rather than some ordinary Joe. Small country Australia spent $380 million for olympics training , China spent $260 million to develop a national sports program in 1988 for Soul olympics. so ippudu oka billion dollars ayyundocchu.. they were ready to pay 4 times the fees for American & Aus swim coaches. China has Whole nation system to train their athletes by picking them at tender age from all over the country and give them training with limited or no social life . India on other hand spent 45 crores for Rio Olympic training. |
