Transforming Vijayawada: Art to replace ugly posters in city Staff Reporter print · T T inShare 1 on a mission:Volunteers take part in the VMCâs âTransforming Vijayawadaâ campaign in Vijayawada on Wednesday.â Photo: Ch.Vijaya Bhaskar on a mission:Volunteers take part in the VMCâs âTransforming Vijayawadaâ campaign in Vijayawada on Wednesday.â Photo: Ch.Vijaya Bhaskar Armed with paint brushes, a brigade of nearly thousand volunteers are set on the job of transforming the appearance of the cityâs arterial M.G. Road and Eluru Road before Krishna Pushkaralu begins. In an attempt to make the city poster and wall writing free, the Vijayawada Municipal Corporation launched the âTransforming Vijayawadaâ campaign collaborating with local NGOs, colleges and individuals at the DRR Municipal Indoor Stadium on Wednesday. Speaking on the occasion, Municipal Commissioner G. Veerapandian said that the campaign was aimed at making the city look better and attractive during the Krishna Pushkaralu. âAbout 1,000 students of various colleges were roped in as volunteers. Margam, a voluntary organisation which has experience in making creative murals on city walls, will help the volunteers. Volunteers divided in batches will first remove the posters on the walls in their respective locations and then paint them using the kits given to them,â he said. The Corporation will provide the entire material and tools and helpers for the students, he added. Mayor K. Sridhar appreciated the students for coming forward to take part in the campaign. He asked the volunteers to make arts that represent our culture look attractive and informative. Students of the Siddhartha Group of Colleges, the Nalanda educational institutions, K.L. University, volunteers of Margam and others were present. |
