There is nothing new about Subramanian Swamyâs vulnerability to faux pas, and the Rajya Sabha MP has made another embarrassing blunder when he tweeted about veteran singer K.J Yesudasâ âconversionâ to Hinduism. Rumours have been rife on the social media about the legendary singerâs religious conversion; Mr. Swamy didnât bother to check the veracity of the news, but instead, posted a tweet welcoming the singerâs decision. âLet us all Virat Hindus welcome the twitter news, if true, that famous singer Yesudas has returned to the religion of his Hindu ancestors,â he wrote. Later, Yesudasâ wife Prabha dismissed off the rumours when she was contacted by a television channel. âI do not know how this news has come, and itâs not true,â Prabha reportedly told the channel. Swamy had to eat his words later and conveniently passed the buck by blaming the media with another tweet that read: âOn Yesudas I was only re tweeting a news that he had converted and said if true he is welcome. Media hungry for my tweets twisted it.â (sic) Yesudas, the legendary singer, is known for his secular attitude. An ardent devotee of Lord Ayyappa, he has rendered voice to thousands of devotional songs regardless of religion. Being a Catholic, he is not allowed to enter the famous Guruvayur temple, where according to the existing laws, non-hindus arenât welcome. Despite mass support from his fans and politicians, the singer has refrained from questioning that decision. However, he is allowed entry to other temples; he regulary visits the Kollur Mookambika Temple and had also been to the famous Sabarimala temple many times. |
