Atleast in my team 50% of the folks work from home. Our company generally frowns upon the idea of wfh. but my boss (sr manager and his boss director) don't care as long as product is delivered on time.

This is one of the reason we have daily standups and also various feature wise syncups between team members

This is what I do, I appreciate if my team members publicly (daily standups or team meetings) and inform my boss if the team member has done significant contribution. I hate sending thank you emails for every task, it dilutes the appreciation and people will stop trusting you and think you are just manipulating them to get the work done.

It depends on type of manager

People Manager - you inform them about the asks from your product manager and let the team lead come up with the design. I generally organise a design discussion meeting and let the team come up with the right solution/design. In the end team lead is liable for the design and he has full freedom to execute the way he wants.

Tech Lead -- Look at my previous statement about tech leads owning the design and development.

every week is too much...we keep talking about project tasks each day
bi weekly or monthly

it works very good for off shore resources
they get feedback from ppl whom they have worked with and if they have met the expectations

90% of the time ...all in favor gaa vasthaayi.
some positive feedback point regarding improvement is what matters for both mgr and the resource

1-1 every week avasaram ledemo unless canditate is in red zone and the progress needs to be monitored anukunte tappa. how to document ante no idea. ala document chestaru ani kuda vinaledu. but definite ga 1-1 meeting lo targets set chestaru kabatti (like save $x.. or create one generic framework or reusable product etc or reduce the # of SIT/UAT/PROD defects) vatini assess cheyyadam every quarter and finnally annually. sudden ga na rating enduku ila undi ani member ki kuda surprise undadu when there is constant feed back every quarter.

it is next to spam ani naa feel

when your team member responds, it is more or less he is responding on the team's behalf
during the daily calls, i just touch base on issues they have responded...just to let them know that i have reviewed and if necessary send additional details on follow up

if they have done significant investigation, proposed solutions etc. ...i do send an email starting with thanks teammate and then address the parties in play about the next steps or asking them to review and confirm etc.

Team Meeting - manager should speak and allow others speak depending on the topic

a mix of both the worlds is besht ani na aakula view. Give freedom to your team member to explain their ideas rather than dumping what ever you have in your mind. ala ani giving freedom name meeda nachina implementation framework follow ayyi deliverable delay ayyi, timelines meet ayye situation lekunte cut cheyyadam kuda imp :D
