deniki okadi response, again in FB  ----------------------------------------------------- Personally, I'm happy this injustice was addressed, but I'm also disappointed. Why is everyone concentrating on just the racial insensitivity in this poster? There's also sexism, homophobia, transphobia, and many other evils if you look closely enough: -There are more boys than girls. Clearly sends the message that boys are more physically active than girls. -The girl lifeguard is on a shorter chair than the boy lifeguard. Clearly sends the message that boys ought to hold higher positions in the workplace than girls. -The child in the pool only has one dad, rather than two or three. Clearly sends the message that non-traditional families are less important. -There is no lift for the disabled. Clearly sends the message that differently-abled Americans aren't welcome in pools, or in society. -All of the kids are thin. Clearly sends the message that obese Americans should cover themselves up and stay indoors. -All of the kids are wearing bathing suits typically associated with their genders. Clearly sends the message that gender is a binary choice. -Everything on the poster is written in English. Clearly sends the message that Hispanics don't deserve to be safe in the pool and should drown. -The only sea creature represented on the poster is a blue whale. Clearly sends the message that sharks, blow fish, jellyfish, squid, sea horses, etc., are less friendly. I could go on.
