and back to the point about Rajan. people who think Modi govt had an agenda need to look at how they also handled syed akbaruddin. not just remarks. apparently, he would convene meetings when arvind S is out of the country even when told not to. he did not see eye to eye with the fin minister on issues. and regarding remarks - you can't go out there and actively comment on govt initiatives. you are signaling to the world that the fed governor and govt are not on the same page; especially when the govt is just a newly formed one. they put up with all this for two years. nobody else would. | ||

thanks. for India to get to China's level, it will take 30 years. assuming that Modi is trying to get us there in 5 yrs is foolish. and this is not the only option that Modi has been pushing for. First, and for the record, I believe that Rajan has been an able steward of Indias monetary policy and on this ground alone deserved to be re-appointed. Second, however, a central bank governor is not appointed with the goal that he uses his bully pulpit to be a free-wheeling public intellectual, lecturing Indians and the world on the follies of the governments Make in India project, on the dangers of intolerance to our republic, and so forth. | ||

Rakths = rajan bhakths ... ee rajan exit meedha godava Modi meedha edupu more than any concern for what he did. 1. I really admire rajan so wished he stayed on but him leaving does not bring down the country. Many competent people have left and the system has to be beyond such people. 2. Modi could have kicked him out in may 2014 if he wanted to; people need to remember that. he gave him two years and tried to work with him. unelected people have an obligation to work *with* the elected govt no matter how much they may dislike them. Rajan kept on pushing the envelope. better for him to go. 3. A certain Manmohan singh wsa kicked out of RBI in the 80s because he opposed some of the policies of the then govt. congee fans should know. 4. I think this decision by govt not to actively coopt him was less about his policies and more about his style. dont think mental swamy had much to say here. Jaitley would have a big say and anyone knows how much jaitley and swamy hate each other. Rajan made it very clear he did not like this govt. good for him to leave then. |
