Another Age Old advice, dump Microsoft Windows, and switch to Ubuntu even, or any Linux or GNU Kernel based OS..
How do Viruses work?
Virus is also a Program, it has Processes and Threads. It needs the OS to allocate sufficient cycles in the Processor Cores and Memory in the L1 and L2 Caches and additional memory in the RAM.
The core underlying component of any OS, the Kernel, is most important in putting together all of this.
Not all Programs have adequate Permissions, depending on the OS of course, for Processing Cycles by the Kernel.
Windows Kernels suck... Computer Viruses exist because Windows allows them to exist.

Show me one Virus or Malware that can attack a Mac OS X, or Ubuntu, and I'll rest my case.

Bitcoin is more decentralized crypto currency(so not hackable) - its main use is not being anonymous money launder and i dont think it can stay anonymous for long.

at some point the Bitcoin is to be converted to USD doesnt that leave a trail? at present Bitcoin cannot be used as is (only few sites etc are allowing it). And given that a Bitcoin address is public, it can be known how many transactions the particular address has performed maybe the money per transaction cant be known. but at some point it has to convert to other monetary form

A blog post I wrote in 2014 on this subject. Needless to say, there are some wrong statements in the post - About Bitcoin being truly anonymous.

I am sure ECEC kurrodu will come and attack me for posting this and I may get banned by a famous moderator as a result. Still, taking the risk of posting this and "showing off"

Of late, a new type of computer virus is making the headlines. The virus, which normally propagates via links that you have to click (Email/Twitter/Facebook), encrypts all your files on the computer with a strong encryption key. This key is stored on their servers and retained for a period of three days. The user has to pay the ransom before that deadline. Otherwise, the key will be deleted forever and you will be left with a set of encrypted documents that can never be decrypted.

Welcome to the brave new world of "Ransomware".

Ransomware is a disruptive development in the world of security. So far, the attackers have had no means of monetizing their viruses - save for the DDoS blackmailing targeted at large corporations. Now, that's no longer the case. Each individual is susceptible to an attack. The ransom is normally kept low enough for people to pay immediately - usually around 200 to 300 dollars.

Setting aside the morality of the approach, you have to agree that it is a brilliant tactic. One wonders why it has taken so long for the bad guys to conjure up a virus like this.

The answer is simple. Money leaves a trail.

Unless you are dealing with cash, money is known to leave trails that the law enforcement agencies can latch on to and quickly bust the virus creators. Since the person responsible for the ransomware cannot ask you to meet up pay up the 300 dollars and get caught by the police, ransomware has not been a viable proposition.

Till now, that is.

With the advent of Bitcoin, "anonymity" in money transactions has become possible even with electronic money. You can now transfer money to anywhere in the world without anyone ever knowing the source or the destination of that fund transfer. No governments can track you. You are shielded pretty much from all the law enforcement agencies.

Almost immediately the ransomwares have started surfacing. The payment method is always Bitcoin. And in most cases, the key is given to you as promised because it is important for the hacker to establish a weird and convoluted but definitely needed trust! Unless the user is convinced that he would get the key, he will not pay for it.

Bitcoins can be used for legitimate purposes of course. But we have to admit that it is the first truly electronic form of "cash" - one that offers real anonymity and simplicity.

So what can you do about preventing such ransomware attacks? Keep your OS patched and your antivirus program up to date. Make sure you know how to buy and sell bitcoins. (Should come in handy in case you are attacked - so that you don't lose time figuring out what bitcoin is.)

And yes! Age old advice - Don't click on that link. Period.
