It was fascinating to watch this kid - his instant recall on the words ! Jairam seemed more like preparation over the years and took the time to get info and arrive at the right spelling whereas Nihar was only confirming if he had the right word .. Greetings! It is with great pleasure I share with you that Nihar Saireddy Janga of Austin, TX, once again carried high the banner of Telugu pride, being crowned the Co-Champion of the 2016 National Spelling Bee Competitions. Nihar, at 11 years, is the youngest ever Spelling Bee Champion. On behalf of TANA, it is my honor to congratulate Nihar and his parents on this glorious achievement! Nihar continues a great tradition of Telugu kids making their mark at this prestigious competition. He is the Third Telugu kid to win the National Spelling Bee in five years, and the fifth since 2002 (Pratyush Buddiga 2002, Sai Gunturi 2003, Snigdha Nandipati 2012 and Arvind Mahakali 2013). It is also noteworthy that four of the ten finalists in this year's Spelling Bee Championship are of Telugu origin. Of course, there were many other Telugu kids that won the Regional Spelling Bee Championships this year and participated at the National competitions. Once again my congratulations to all these fine young men and women (and their parents) that exemplify the diligence, determination and dedication that has come to characterize this young generation and brings pride, glory and joy to Telugu people across the world!
