Last week, wifey forgot her cell phone in an autorickshaw in Hyderabad. We realized it only after an hour after she reached home. I immediately logged onto Android Device Manager; found that the device was still reporting it location. I immediately locked it and put a message on it to call me back. No call came. Aa tarvata we got into our car and drove to the location (20 meter accuracy) in Chandanagar and tried talking to all the autowallahs there. No one said anything. We even inquired in a mobile shop in the vicinity. That guy looked as if he had seen a ghost and told hurriedly that he wouldn't know anything about it. At this juncture, the device stopped reporting the location. The battery life was still around 20% when it was switched off. (Thanks to Life360 app). So it was clear that the phone was deliberately switched off. We gave up; went to the nearest Airtel showroom and got a replacement SIM. Then we went home. I logged onto Device Manager again and issued an Erase command, just in case. Two hours later, my security guy called me from the gate and said an autowallah was there saying he had found our cell phone. We let him in and he gave us the phone. We gave him some money and he went away satisfied. That phone, when switched on - started the setup as a new phone, which means that the guy had tried unsuccessfully to start the device and got the erase instruction. Anyway - all is well that ends well. Android Device Manager and Life360 apps were incredibly useful and I sincerely believe we wouldn't have got the device back had we not locked it up via Android Device Manager. Just thought of sharing the experience. Naaku nacchindi janaalaki nacchadu... Janaalaki nacchindi naaku nacchadu... Nenanthe.. adho type. |
