When did bathrooms become popular in the United States?

By about the 1840s in America, architects who made pattern books — books that everybody could buy and then build according to the patterns in the book — added a little room that was called a “bath-room” for the first time, which meant that, eventually, there would be fixed plumbing in that room. But for a very long time, until well into the 1920s in rural places, you would just move your tin tub into the kitchen on Saturday night and fill it with warm water, and then everybody in the family, one by one, would get into the same water, starting with probably the father, who was the most important, and going down to the daughter-in-law, who was the least important.

The holier you were — and this really applied to monks and hermits and saints — the less you would wash. And the more you smelled, the closer to God people thought you were.

If most of the entire populace smelling rancid wasn’t enough, during Medieval times in Europe, the streets of cities tended to be coated in feces and urine thanks to people tossing the contents of their chamber pots into the streets. As one 16th century nobleman noted “the streets resembled a fetid stream of turbid water.” He also noted that he had to keep a scented handkerchief held under his nose in order to keep himself from vomiting when walking the streets. If that wasn’t enough, butchers slaughtered animals in the streets and would leave the unusable bits and blood right on the ground. One can only imagine how people survived the stench on sun-baked summer days.
Interestingly, during the Middle Ages, people surprisingly did pay some attention to dental hygiene. Teeth were cleaned by rubbing them with a cloth and mixtures of herbs including the ashes of burnt rosemary.
The Ancient Greeks adopted the idea of bathing from the Hindus who were familiar with the benefits of bathing as early as 3,000 years ago.

Goodness me..now they became epitome of cleanliness..and we.. exact opposite.. hindus daily 3 times bath cheyyali ante veella reaction ela vundedo appudu..

Europe is cold most of the year. Unlike India where abundant water is available at comfortable temperature.

European's idea of bath was dusting their body with some powder and take a dip in water. once in a few months.

We, Indians taught them the concept of daily bath and its effect on the mind.

Good concept so book 1 was really exciting , but agree with Mario_puzo the style and language grated .. But concept outweighed the style..

Book 2 - by now the expectations were lowered on style so that was a non-factor . Liked it because of the philosophical discussions in it, I would say my fav book of the trilogy .. the concept of Nagas was excellent, but the story line was starting to get a little predictable

Book 3 was personally a complete let down...

There was enough philosophical content in part 1.

Narration was good.

I am comparing it to other contemporary fictional stories. Not mahabharat.
