Ok, for those thinking naah it's too far fetched and too trivial to bother about or its just a fodder for sci-fi flicks or as some conspiracy theories by opposers of change..... Here are some excerpts from experts

1) of course no.1 stefen hawkings:
“Success in creating AI would be the biggest event in human history,” wrote Stephen Hawking in an op-ed, which appeared in The Independent in 2014. “Unfortunately, it might also be the last, unless we learn how to avoid the risks. In the near term, world militaries are considering autonomous-weapon systems that can choose and eliminate targets.” Professor Hawking added in a 2014 interview with BBC, “humans, limited by slow biological evolution, couldn’t compete and would be superseded by A.I

2) Elonmusk, aka iron man without a suit:
Elon Musk called the prospect of artificial intelligence “our greatest existential threat” in a 2014 interview with MIT students at the AeroAstro Centennial Symposium. “I’m increasingly inclined to think that there should be some regulatory oversight, maybe at the national and international level, just to make sure that we don’t do something very foolish.” Mr. Musk cites his decision to invest in the Artificial Intelligence firm, DeepMind, as a means to “just keep an eye on what’s going on with artificial intelligence. I think there is potentially a dangerous outcome there.”

3) and then of course, Bill gates:
Mr. Gates said, “I am in the camp that is concerned about super intelligence. First the machines will do a lot of jobs for us and not be super intelligent. That should be positive if we manage it well. A few decades after that though the intelligence is strong enough to be a concern. I agree with Elon Musk and some others on this and don’t understand why some people are not concerned

When AI becomes intelligent enough to replicate the hardware it runs on , basically reproduce - humans will be redundant , I think :-) we will be leaving the earth to the droids ...:-)

not what they want to.... What we are capable to....

ok, don't get me wrong with above statement.... My comment is again inline with thread content..... Relevant quote from article:

Superintelligence of that magnitude is not something we can remotely grasp, any more than a bumblebee can wrap its head around Keynesian Economics. In our world, smart means a 130 IQ and stupid means an 85 IQ—we don’t have a word for an IQ of 12,952

Max difference b/w Einstein and me is 130-85=45 ..... That's it..... So, we all think more or less within same constraints and same range....

haha.... But, some of the descriptions and capabilities of ASI (artificial super intelligence) as described by the author sound very similar to what we keep hearing about God in our scriptures.... :D

By chance, I came across the below two links..... It's a two part post about AI.... So, it consists of all basic points that we think we already know about AI..... But with a very very different perspective.....offering perspectives of some of the most important people in the field of AI.....

Sadly, if the post is even remotely true, then, it's not sufficient that only people with working knowledge about AI should begiving their perspectives..... A whole lot of people from across the spectrum should be involved / get involved in this discussion...why so??? Because, as the post ends ominously saying, this could be the best invention and the last invention we ever make.....

And reading about this opened a new stream of internal debate within me correlating it back to the concepts of Hinduism..... But will post those ramblings later.....

Before any thing else just read it thru.... I completed it with three breaks (very lengthy but interesting as he'll) but I would have liked to read it at a stretch..... Will post links in next post as this has become a longer post than I wanted it to be....
