I would still say that it only one small element in the overall picture - HDI indicators, Gini coefficient etc. matter a lot more to see whether the citizens as a whole are doing better than earlier. The limited point here that matters is that a 4% difference in growth rates between the national GDP growth rate and the stage GSDP coming on the back of a depleted financial position and loss of capital is very very admirable. Now what should be seen is whether this is sustainable and whether this GDP growth is actually resulting in wider and better income distribution across all classes. If it is not, CBN will have his butt kicked in the next election, simple. | ||

The budget released yesterday gives clarity on this. The real growth is 11% and nominal growth is over 16% which is totally awesome. Not sure if it is industry hit though. And even the other parameters like fiscal deficit, revenue deficit have been stellar. Non-plan expenditures have also been controlled at only 94% of the budget. This despite a high pay revision of over 40% for employees. I am not sure how they managed it. But all in all, a fantastic performance for the first full year that this govt has had. |
