The Centre has not taken up any process to increase the number of assembly seats till now as it requires amendments to Articles 82 & 170 of the Constitution. The Centre had previously amended the Constitution freezing the delimitation of constituencies for a period of 25 years (till first census after 2026), which means such an exercise can be taken up only after 2031 if fresh amendments are not made. . . The NDA government is reportedly going slow on this move as it does not have numbers for taking up the Constitutional amendment in Rajya Sabha and it requires support from opposition parties like Congress.
