The series of debacles for the Bharatiya Janata Party in various elections in different States in the last 19 months and the growing discontent among the NDA allies seems to have made Prime Minister Narendra Modi to rethink on his strategies.

Particularly in Andhra Pradesh, the Prime Minister has come to the conclusion that the BJP has no scope of growing as independent power and hence, it has to depend on its ally the TDP.

In Telangana, too, the BJP has absolutely no chance of emerging as an alternative force, as was evident in the recent GHMC polls. So, the Centre has no option but to succumb to the demands of the NDA allies, if it has to come to power again in 2019.

That is precisely why analysts are of the view that Modi may consider the demand for special status to Andhra Pradesh.

During the visit of Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu to Delhi on Tuesday, Modi is learnt to have spoken positively on the special status demand.

Naidu reportedly urged the Prime Minister to grant Special Status to Andhra Pradesh and fulfill other promises made in the AP Reorganisation Act.

He also sought central funds for early completion of pending projects in the State. During the half-an-hour meeting, Naidu also briefed the PM on the status of works pertaining to Amravati, the State's new capital and Modi responded positively saying a decision would be taken after examining the Niti Ayog report on special status.

If it materialises, it will be a plus point not only for Naidu but also for the BJP in the coming days.
