Finally managed to see this movie. With this I have covered all the four Sankranti releases. Short review: The best Sankranti movie for me. My order is NPT >>> Dictator/ER > SCN What I liked about NPT is the refreshingly nice and subdued treatment of the story. We have a hero who doesn't need to send baddies flying to make a point. We have a heroine who is not the dumbest girl on the planet. There is the bad guy who doesn't have to twitch his facial muscles every time he appears on the frame to appear mean and gruesome. He doesn't have to pack one of his associates off to establish his character's menacing attitude. And Oh God! I can't thank you enough for this. We have a climax that doesn't contain a bloody battle of epic proportions. NTR for the first time in his career, looked cool, calm and composed. Hopefully he gives this kind of a characterization a serious second look going forward. Rakul has simply set the screen on fire. Jagapathibabu - for reasons I can't yet comprehend, looked like a joker in formal and expensive attire. Maybe it is just me but he looked totally out of place in that setting. However, his calm demeanor and the way he pays back for what he did at the end of the movie are redeeming factors. London and its surroundings were captured with such a finesse that every frame looked like a postcard. As a director, Sukumar has largely hit the right notes throughout the movie though the script had its own share of apaswaraas. Still when viewed as a whole, the movie is a decent watch and a sign of good things to come. Now, there are a hundred things that I didn't like about the movie. I can accept incredible coincidences as "creative freedom" but trying to put a scientific and logical spin on them is a hilarious exercise in futility. Here's a sample. The guy looks at a beer bottle lying on the road and predicts correctly which direction the car has headed when the driver throws the bottle out. And we get to hear the "reasoning" that explains it all. That explains it all. In fact the first few minutes should make you understand the genre of the movie in no nonsense terms. It is "fantasy" and surely a "science fiction". In fact let me go out on a limb and call it what it is. A Butterfly Fiction. (It is the genre of cinema that marries traditional revenge story with incredible coincidences explained by a logical hero who understands the forces of nature so comprehensively that you wonder why he is still a pretty round blob of mass and not yet a streak of energy.
