At the cost of sounding anti-whatever group mentioned in below article.... I have few genuine doubts..... 1) the Mahars, when fought against preheat army....were they fighting an army full of upper caste soldiers or the army consisted of lower castes as well??? 2) if peshwa army consisted of lower castes as well, then how did mahars fight upper caste oppression? Is it because mahars considered defeating peshwA army as defeating the behind the scene Tyler's identity, then, by the same token of identity, wouldn't the victory be that of British and not that of mahars?? 3) if it is indeed mahars fight against upper caste oppression, then what would have happened in a hypothetical scenario where just before war peshwas made truce with British?? a)Would mahars have revolted against British and went ahead and fought peshwa armies?? b) would have pursuaded British out of truce and went ahead with the war??? c) quit British army, form their own band and fought against Peshawas??? Finally, one more genuine doubt.... Is it just coincidence that we as a nation are being educated about peshwa atrocities right on the eve of a movie on, well, a peshwa??? Kings and kingdoms were purely cast based and Brits easy ga set chesaru.. Pf.Md was able to consolidate Islam but unfortunate is hinduism was never consolidated infact casts were created for more confusion... When Buddha changed everybody to hindus better we continued, British rule would have been impossible ..but shankaracharyas prastanam was successful. ..and again casts rose and we were vulnerable to British and still same topics raise every day | ||

Why lakhs of Indians celebrate the British victory over the Maratha Peshwas every New Year Five hundred Mahar soldiers scattered the 25,000-strong Peshwa army for the East India Company in Koregaon near Pune in 1818. An hour after New Year struck on Friday, two retired army officers, PS Dhoble and Dadasaheb Bhosle, set out in a bus from the tomb of Independence-era leader BR Ambedkar in Mumbai's Dadar area. Accompanying them in the convoy were more 300 other uniformed men and women. Five hours later, they reached their destination: a large village just past Pune called Bhima Koregaon. It was here, on the banks of the Bhima river, that a ragtag group of Mahar soldiers fighting under the British flag in 1818 defeated the vastly superior forces of the Peshwa. More than 150 years later, evidence of the battle is still apparent. Residents of Bhima Koregaon say they find swords from the battle in the river bed even today. Bhosle recounted with pride the story of how 500 Mahar soldiers on foot launched a heroic attack against the 25,000-strong army of the Peshwas, staffed with mounted soldiers armed with guns âBigod, humne Peshwe ko khatm kiye,â Bhosle said. âThe Mahars only ended Peshwa rule and gave India to the British.â This might seem an unusual sentiment for an officer who has several medals on his chest in recognition of his services to the nation. Bhosle served in the 1965 war, in Sri Lanka, in the Andamans and Jammu and Kashmir.
