MP: Congress bags 5 urban body chief posts, BJP 3

he Congress bagged the chairperson posts in five of the eight urban bodies in Madhya Pradesh that went to polls on December 22.

The Congress won the Shajapur municipality, Orchha nagar parishad, Majhauli nagar parishad, Bhedaghat nagar parishad and Dhamnod nagar parishad while the BJP won the Sehore and Mandsaur municipalities and Shahganj nagar parishad.

Seven of these urban bodies were with the BJP, while the Bhedaghat nagar parishad was the only body controlled by the Congress.

The Sehore municipality and the Shahganj nagar parishad, both won by the BJP, are located in Sehore, the home district of chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan.

The victory for the Congress came barely a month after the party won the Ratlam-Jhabua Lok Sabha bypoll where former Union minister Kantilal Bhuria defeated Nirmala Bhuria with a margin of more than 88,800 votes.

The Congress celebrated the victory, saying that the results were reflective of the mood of the people to bring about change.
