there are lots of small temples within Chennai where priests are non-Brahmins and temples do well.... I didnt know about Parthasarathy temple .. but TN lo DMK time lo .. arbitrary ga oka 1200 (600 each year) priests ni appoint chesaru .. and aa temples anni within no time lost patronage of bhaktas .. and now those priests dont have work to do .. as they are not properly trained .. notlo mantram leni vadini, public acceptance unde type attitude lekapothe no priest can stick to the profession .. oka ammavari gudi ki vellanu oka sari outside chennai in a tamil coastal village .. obviously the priest is a non-b .. as he did not have a jandhyam .. around 8 pm ki velthe .. aa time ke garbha gudi lights off chesi unnayi .. garbha gudi bayata unna room (still in the temple mandapa) lo .. he is doing his samsaram .. i am not blaming him .. may be he doesnt have money to rent a room anywhere else .. but gudi lo ne kapuram unde type paristhithi valla evariki use? political reasons ki atanni priest ga appoint chesi undachu .. but does it solve any problem or does it create more problems? What I mean to say is, iskcon is not a out of blue association.... don't think so, look at iskcon temples, all it takes for a devotee (of whatever birth origin) is 7 years (min) of commitment in the path laid down by iskcon acharyas.... After that anyone can be an archaka and believe me majority no.of archakas at halving world over are nonbrahmins by birth.... Cheppakada interest and commitment unnavaallani encourage cheyyali.... TN govt had set up special training programs for wannabe archakas.... Also, many temples already have non Brahmin priests in TN.... For ex, the very famous parthasarathy temple in triplicane Chennai has non Brahmin priests and people throng that temple like anything, indicating general acceptance.... I accept that each post has its own skill set requirements, but if people are ready to be trained and get ready for what the role demands, they should be encouraged.....
