i am not an expert vunkl... but as i understand - there are multiple indicators and scales for measuring pollution. Land, Water, Air, Noise and Light pollutions are broader categories, but mostly when people talk about pollution they are talking about air pollution, while land and water are also becoming incrementally hard to protect from pollution. for instance consider acidifying pollutants - this sort of pollution usually happens in areas with lower densities,. Main culprits - agriculture(using nitrogen based fertlizers), live stock (more live stock, more pollution), while secondary culprits are transportation and manufacturing units while ozone precursor pollutants have manufacturing units, transportations, and using fossil fuels for cooking are the main culprits. water pollution - irrigation is one of the main reasons. ila indicator ni batti cause determine cheyavachu... but overall smog we see in most cities is mainly construction, manufacturing units - both of these can release metallic particles into air, that get suspended in the surrounding, and too many vehichles definetly wont help. | ||

Delhi's vehicle population is overstated and hyped to some extent. Of course their car population is very very high but that resuls in congestion and parking issues but not as much pollution issues. Main problem with the cowbelt is several bad practices - a) because of the extreme cold people burn tyres, leaves on the road b) because of aravallis, himalayas on one side, pollution get trapped in micro pockets - Chennai for instance has a higher vehicular density that delhi, but because it is by the sea, the air get blown out c) crop stubble burning by the moron farmers in Punjab, Haryana, UP d) Winds from Rajasthan e) Winder cold accentuates the pollution by trapping the vehicular pollution closer to the ground. So in winters, vehicular pollution contribution is more f) polluting industries close to city centres etc etc | ||

Along with vehicular pollution, construction dust and concrete jungles too seem to be responsible along with industrial pollution in India. The best we can do is - develop an efficient public transport which makes it the preferred mode of transport unlike now. Road widening can be slowed down. Less traffic jams and resultingly less particulate matter. And there should also more trees grown along the roads and colonies etc .. Unless we dont take these up in the next 5 years, we are sure to read some very bad news in the coming decades! This is a super serious problem! Delhi lo racha chustunnam. Darth anukunta in one thread about 'delhi road space rationing' said 'pollution from vehicles is very lil responsible where as the construction dust, industrial pollution(?) etc are main culprits for air pollution' ane lines lo cheppinattu gurtu. I read about LA smog problem back in 1950s,60s and how it took a decade for science society to prove that sunlight exposed hydro carbon emissions from car tailpipes will turn into photochemical smog. What all can be done to reduce this? do we have any numbers of which industry/segment is causing what amount of pollution(in say 10 major cities of India)? Mee thoughts cheppurri |
