A post I wrote in 2012 when Bala Saheb passed on. Reposting on his 3rd Death Anniv. When a system fails. A power rises, as people need it - And SARKAR rose! He single-handedly stood between Mumbai and the Islamist Underworld! Straight talking, tough, resolute, a true nationalist. Balasaheb was a reaction to the systemic flaw, don't blame the reaction blame the system. Half of Mumbai's police and an equal number of politicians were in 'The D's' pocket. Cong secularism ensured that D's citadels weren't raided. D's associates in politics ensured that his cronies were protected. The ones who call Balasaheb a fascist dont know the hold of D company on Mumbai's commerce/ cinema/ sports. HE was the answer since the State failed! Balasaheb was a historic necessity and a product of his times. If he was not there Mumbai would have invented another Balasaheb to save itself from the D company. Had Bal Thackeray not been there, Cong would have given D a ticket from Mumbai and made him MLA/MP like they did with the other 1992 prosecuted. I was living in Mumbai in 92. My building on Worli Seaface shook. My Muslim seva-dhaari dint come to work. I was worried. But much to my relief, she resurfaced after 7 days, to tell me that her family survived ONLY because they were given shelter by none other than Shiv Sainiks! That yummy sandwich wala on mumbai's streets, that vada-pau wala are products of Shiv Sena's Employment Drive. That mumbai has been safe for women specially....Thankyou Balasaheb! That Kashmiri Pandits and Sikhs remained protected when their own country spat on them...Thankyou Balasaheb! That communist trade unions got demolished, helping Mumbai become India's Money Capital....Thankyou Balasaheb! That the Govt of Maharashtra deploys them as the 3rd Tier of Security (and frankly the most effective).....Thankyou Balasaheb! The legacy of Balasaheb is that Mumbai was quiet the day he passed on in spite of attempts by media to create an explosive situation. I wish Rajeev G too had told his goons to stay calm instead of inciting them when the infamous tree fell. And then people called Balasaheb communal? They said "look at the irony, that in his last days he was treated by muslims"? Do they even know that those "muslim" doctors were his friends and loved him? That his cook is a dalit and his security had muslims in it? Contrast here - The G's never ever got a Sikh, Tamil or Muslim in their security, how is that for communalism?? Balasaheb was a COMMUNALIST, ONLY WITH COMMUNALISTS!!! A Muslim family from Mumbai summed it well - "He was never against Muslims. He was only against ppl who were against India". Liberals everywhere, Right or left, just cannot understand the smell of sweat & blood of the commoners. Sorry this post has gone on so long, but just one last example of his decisiveness: Terrorists in Kashmir once said "NO" to the Amarnath Yatra,. Balasaheb did what no other politician dared, he said "In that case, NO Haj through Mumbai"! PROBLEM SOLVED....Thankyou Balasaheb! |
