From the SEIAA Website: http://seiaa.ap.nic.in/october/Amaravti%20EC%20order.pdf SEIAA - Andhra Pradesh Ministry of Environment & Forests, Government of India notified in September 2006, under the Environment (Protection) Act, 1986, imposing certain restrictions and prohibitions on new projects or activities, or on the expansion or modernization of existing projects or activities based on their potential environmental impacts, being undertaken in any part of India, unless prior Environmental Clearance has been accorded in accordance with the objectives of National Environmental Policy and the procedures specified in the notification, by the Central Government or State or Union Territory Level Environment Impact Assessment Authority (SEIAA), to be constituted by the Central Government in consultation with the State Government or the Union Territory Administration concerned. Projects falling under Category ‘A’ in the Schedule to the Notification require Environmental Clearance from the Government of India, Ministry of Environment & Forests,New Delhi and Category 'B' Projects Notified in the Schedule require Environmental Clearance from State level Environment Impact Assessment Authority, A.P. Hyderabad. The Notification provides for constitution of a State Environment Impact Assessment Authority empowering to grant Environmental Clearance to the Category 'B' Projects to mitigate pollution and protect environment which is an essential pre-requisite to start the project. To assist this Authority, a State Expert Appraisal Committee (SEAC) is constituted. The Expert Appraisal Committee will scrutinize the project proposals and forward its recommendations to the State Environment Impact Assessment Authority for taking a decision on Environmental Clearance. On the recommendations of the Government of Andhra Pradesh, Government of India notified, vide S.O 2618 (E) on 13th October 2014, the constitution of a three member State Level Environment Impact Assessment Authority and a 15 Member State Expert Appraisal Committee for Andhra Pradesh for a term of three years. Project proposals in the State under Category ‘B’ of the schedule in the EIA Notification 2006 and amended thereon are being received by the State Environment Impact Assessment Authority, scrutinized and referred to the State Level Expert Appraisal Committee for their appraisal. Based on the recommendations of the State Experts Appraisal Committee, the State Environment Impact Assessment Authority decides issue of Environment Clearance. | ||
