Aimed at long term financial gain, State Government seems to have preferred to opt a âbackdoorâ way to increase petrol and diesel prices. With this the government, which increased existing VAT (Value Added Tax) from 31 per cent to 35.2 per cent on Thursday revised to levy the same when there is hike in fuel prices at international level. The state government has increased the VAT on Petrol to 35.2 per cent from 31 per cent and 27 per cent on Diesel from 22.25 per cent. The amount hiked is higher by Rs 2.50 per liter compared to other states. It may be noted that the government which hiked Rs 2 on Jan 16 when there was a slash in fuel prices, has taken a decision to revise and adjust it into VAT percentage. To this the government has issued orders with immediate effect. As a result, fuel prices in Telangana will see rise through VAT when its prices get slashed.
