APTransco has topped the country by clocking the lowest loss of 11.36 per cent in in power supply in the Country. It is followed Maharashtra (14.2 per cent), Punjab (14.21) and Gujarat (14.6 per cent). Himachal Pradesh, Kerala, Karnataka, Uttaranchal and Tamil Nadu secured place in the top 10 power-saving states. CBN’s Government has launched an extensive programme to further reduce Transmission and Distribution losses from the present 11.36 per cent to 9 per cent to save Rs 1,500 crore every year. Visakhapatnam has recorded 3.34 per cent transmission and 2.15 per cent distribution losses, the lowest among South Indian states.

Earlier, loss of energy at transmission and distribution network has been eating away precious resources worth thousands of crores of rupees. Theft of energy through illegal means has been eating away electricity worth Rs 540 crore every year.

Steps taken by AP Government:

· APTransco to set up inter-state metering devices to figure out exact losses at 400 kv and 220 kv lines
· New meters will be installed at all 132 kv, 33 kv and 11 kv sub-stations
· Higher capacity conductor will be installed to reduce transmission losses and step-up transformers will be replaced with higher capacity ones
· Non-MRI high accuracy meters will be replaced with defective meters
· Installation 615 availability-based tariff (ABT) compatible meters to maximize savings
