Filmbuff:

If adventure is your genre, and Sridevi your fantasy, Ill wholeheartedly recommend K. Raghavendra Raos Jagadeka Veerudu Athiloka Sundari in which Sridevi is joined by Chiranjeevi on a whirlwind tour of fantasy, games, childish humor, action, and terrific music by Ilaiyaraaja. Coming to Puli, its clearly a case of misguided shot.

Yes, this is a very tricky genre to get right in the modern age...either it can be a disaster like Ajooba or Puli or it can be a blockbuster. And to do it right two times over with Magadheer and BB is fantastic.

Puli's failure once again proves SSR's unparalleled grasp of commercial cinema and it is impossible for others in entire Indian cinema to recreate it...proud that he's telugu...ECC batch please gabbu lepoddu.

If adventure is your genre, and Sridevi your fantasy, Iâll wholeheartedly recommend K. Raghavendra Raoâs âJagadeka Veerudu Athiloka Sundariâ in which Sridevi is joined by Chiranjeevi on a whirlwind tour of fantasy, games, childish humor, action, and terrific music by Ilaiyaraaja. Coming to âPuliâ, itâs clearly a case of misguided shot.

But there was more to Baahubali, a sustained commitment to storytelling, a belief that even fantasy needs some kind of internal logic â and thatâs missing in Puli.

The first half, especially, is a drag â generic comedy (Thambi Ramiah), generic romance (Shruti Haasan, whoâs sure to snag a Best Supporting Belly Button nomination at next yearâs award functions), a generic second heroine (Hansika Motwani), and the kind of generic background score that composers think scream âepic.â (You know the deep wail, the chorus that sounds as if it was belched out by a thousand Viking women during childbirth.)
