I don't think it's that simple. Times of cold war, difficult to predict of the fate of a country, fate of democracy, in-between times of so many things in the world. Who would have predicted fate of pak who is the biggest ally of global politics to come to this situation. Decisions he made definitely changed the course of some of the situations in Indian history but one has to remember those were times of uncertainty in many ways. Monroe Doctrine is the strength of India's foreign policy. Yes, Nehru made some decisions that seem quite wrong now, but we have to remember that those decisions were made considering the realities of those time. China has been considered a friend by India till 1962 war, and never expected a war from them. It was Mao who pushed for war and Zhou Enlai (their first Foreign minister). Nehru was tricked by Zhou and cheated by China, and yes we are still paying for those mistakes.
