rajan , i think it doesn't work like world police

if a product made in USA or made in EU by a USA company in violates EU norms then EU can take action

EPA came into picture only coz VW sold those cars in USA ani naa understanding

ford etc vaallavi small cars untaayi gaa for local market ...EU lo they have more stringent emission rules and ford makes exclusively for them

riday, the Environmental Protection Agency announced that Volkswagen had very flagrantly violated the Clean Air Act. Not only did the EPA order the German company to fix the affected vehicles,** but the agency has the authority to levy fines as high as $37,500 per car, a maximum of $18 billion. (To put that in perspective, the company's pretax net income was about $4.7 billion last year.) The US government is also mulling criminal charges.

I am bored. Idhi just naa conspiracy theory. :D
what I am saying is
GM paid 900M for its whole cover up. Toyota paid almost double that a few years back. It is a very light punishment for GM.
just questioning timing of this release. GM ninchi brief gaa attention divert chesedaaniki OBAMA administration released this news ani naa theory.
VW is definitely at major fault here. VW ni pattukovalante emissions tarvaata sangathi. It has several problems like steering losing power, and car itself losing power on highways in motion (caused major problems in Australia for VW group) I personally owned VW platform vehicles and I'd like to run them out of business based on their engineering itself.

GM was bailed out in 2009 by this same administration. Most of GM's sales are/were for the govt. fleets etc. they are just doing a favor to GM briefly by diverting attention. this is how politicians work with media. One news comes out and damage control is to release another news to divert attention.

900m slap on the wrist GM received for killing people over 3 decades

GM di ignition problem , malfunction of equipment, defective product which may or may not work, we had similar cases like faulty airbags where people died and car manufactures ignored them

Ikkada allegation totally different , VG had manipulated knowingly to cheat the whole system,

Anyways, does GM is at fault means , we should raise faults of other manufactures ?

There should be no thiefs in US , but US should keep quiet and not expose others who are similar thiefs

"cheated on environmental standards by programming engine management software in some diesel cars to turn on emission controls only when being tested. Cars equipped with the device would run up to 40 times more emissions when on the road, the EPA said."

Somebody also might take this opportunity and keep a keen eye on its shares. Possibility is it might bounce back on longer run once this shxit clears ( might take some time to settle)

http://www.vox.com/2015/9/21/9365667/volkswagen-clean-diesel -recall-passenger-cars

Since 2009, Volkswagen had been installing elaborate software in 482,000 "clean diesel" vehicles sold in the US, so that the cars' pollution controls only worked when being tested by regulators. The rest of the time, the vehicles could freely spew hazardous, smog-forming nitrogen oxides.

On Friday, the Environmental Protection Agency announced that Volkswagen had very flagrantly violated the Clean Air Act.

Volkswagen, in other words, is in deep shit.
