Measuring GSDP helps in improving performance to achieve the set goals: CM

Andhra Pradesh has improved its performance during 2014-15 and occupied sixth place in the country relating to Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP). The State was in eighth place in 2013-14, acccording to Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu.

Addressing Collectors conference in Vijayawada on Friday, Mr. Naidu said the State stood seventh with regard to Per Capita Income (PCI) compared to ninth place in 2013-14.

The GSDP rank improved significantly from 14 in 2012-13 (Andhra Pradesh was a combined State then) to seventh rank in 2014-15, Mr. Naidu said.

The PCI at current prices for 2014-15 was Rs. 90,517 as against Rs. 81,397 in 2013-14. The State improved its PCI rank from 9th in 2013-14 to 7th in 2014-15. Madhya Pradesh is standing first inGSDP.

Bihar, Odisha, Haryana and Tamil Nadu followed it in sequence. Telangana secured 14th rank, the Chief Minister said.

Mr. Naidu said the AP was measuring the GSDP for every quarter, which is first of its kind in the country. It helps in rehashing and revising the programmes and improving the performance to achieve the set goals.

Growth rate

The AP achieved a growth rate of 9.72 per cent in first quarter as against national achievement of 7.1 per cent.

Of the 9.62 per cent growth, agriculture accounted for Rs. 9854 crore, while industries accounted for 15,834 crore; the services sector achieved Rs. 32,504 crore taking the GSDP to Rs. 58,191 crore (at constant prices), he said.

The Chief Minister said the government set a target of achieving 10.44 per cent GSDP this year. The government was aiming at 18 per cent growth in agriculture and allied sectors to reach Rs. 1,69,552 crore in 2015-16 as against Rs. 1,43,498 crore in 2014-15.

The target for industry sector was 16 per cent to contribute Rs.124240 crore in 2015-16 to the GSDP as against Rs. 1,07224 in 2014-15.

The services sector was expected to grow by 21 per cent to contribute Rs. 324307 crore in 2015-16 from Rs. 269307 in 2014-15.
