Good luck: India will be The major beneficiary post demise of Iran sanctions. Iran hellbent to give money and trade to India
Bad luck: Dead rainfall this monsoon would lead to more inflation and headaches for modi

All in all it was an balancing act for him till now.. once Sheikhs start pumping money he can rest easy

Good luck:
1. Massive crash in crude oil prices and some other commodities for which India is heavily dependent on imports.
2. Clear majority mandate given by the people to BJP alone (in the Lok Sabha which is the only house that can take up trust vote/no-confidence motion and also the only house that can reject finance bills like the Union budget). The UPA had a policy paralysis due to the fractured verdict given by the people especially to UPA-II.

Pat on the back:
1. Reduction in top level corruption.
2. Encouraging talent
- This is visible from the way he chose his cabinet (much smaller than the outgoing UPA cabinet which had a cabinet rank minister Kavuri Sambasiva Rao even for Textiles). He assigned the all important Commerce portfolio to a person like Nirama Sitaraman, who did not even contest an assembly election until then!, just by looking at her education and ability to perform.
- Modi also continued the talented Dr. Raghuram Rajan as RBI governor although he was appointed by the UPA.
- Although he was initially opposed to the UIDAI (Aadhaar) project, he lent a willing ear to Mr. Nandan Nilekani and changed his views. (This was despite political differences with Mr. Nilekani who contested and lost to a minister in Modi's cabinet - Anant Kumar)

Slap on the cheek:

1. Backtracking on land acquisition bill
2. Backtracking (or side-stepping) on the promise of special status to AP
3. Indulging in political gimmicks such as the package announced to Bihar

Bad Luck:
1. No majority in the RS (at least not yet)
2. Gloomy clouds of a slowdown in the global economy, especially India's largest trading partner, China.

P.S: Please feel free to add more points under any or all of these four heads.
