They analyse the light coming from the star and see any discrepancies. if there is then they find how much it is differing, what is the angle .. thokka tholu.. based on that they identify that star has planet circling around it and it is blocking the light from the star. based on variation in light they find the mass of the planet. how far it is from star. Is it having any weather. Is it habitable.
