Once others are branded heathens/pagans/devil worshipers, Abrahamic religions tried to eliminate them in different ways. These "pagans" resisted and only Hindus survived this. Christianity almost maintained a big financial institutional network at one time under its umbrella. Read these two books by egyptologist Jan Assmann(If want a copy, let me know). It is important to understand what Assmann calls Mosaic distinction if you want to understand religion and politics.
