Salil was the first to use Western classical music actively in Indian movies whether it is Itnabhi thu mujhse pyar badha or Apni Nishani Chod Ja (base don a Russian tune) in Do Bigha Zamin. At the same time he was among the first to bring folk influences into Hindi movies - like the Bichua song in Madhumati.

Jaaneman jaaneman there do nayan is another favourite song of his from Choti si baat.

Most of us don't know, but Salil was very popular in Malayalam movies ever since he composed for the legendary movie Chemmeen. After that he scored for many other Mallu movies.

Lovely and thanks ..don't remember hearing the song or about the movie...Salil's compositions have a certain unrushed quality - what we call Thehraav in Hindi ..cant't find the exact English or Telugu word - makes you want to stop and just listen :-)

Teliyaka pothe RD burman number laga undi,

Actually has more of SD's touch but a typical Salil Chowdhary in usage of Western classical notes at places and blending with folk...Salil Chowdhary is considered to be the progenitor of IR.

Heard this song on the radio for the first time yesterday, apparently from an unreleased movie of Basu Bhattacharya. Brilliant composition by Sail chowdhary - Lata and Manna did an awesome job. Beautiful, dreamy picturisation too. Always feels nice to find a rare gem.

I have heard this around 30 times since morning, basu bhattacharya was a underrated genius. The photography, angles, colours in his movies are distinctive. Sad that the movie was not released.

Most of my North Indian friends too have not heard this song. Thappaka choodandi, mee abhimana Youtube lo
