I faced similar challenge to take a decision when I was in my early twenties, to be emotional or practical.. If kid has US passport, go to Indian embassy and they will issue temp Visit Visa to the Kid. If NO passport, US guys give the passport in two hours and then go to Indian embassy. the best bet at this moment would be first let the wife (of the deceased) and then the daughter go to attend the funeral. Then husband can join a day later after completing the formalities here with US passport (if needed) and Indian embassy. If he goes with the infant to the embassy with some family friend (ladies to handle the kid) then he gets the visa immediately and can take next flight. Visa on arrival is an option but nobody exactly knows the process ...Indian authorities ki call chesthe .. entha pathetic gaa unddooo .. They dont even know a clue about it .. First of all basic english kuda raaledhu ... The ironic part is that her mother is also here ... So both daughter & wife of the deceased are here .. Her mom is travelling now and she will be going to houston to get a emergency visa .. that thing is easy in houston ... she will be travelling tomorrow | ||

i think emergency visa undi, or visa on arrival undi, she can go and take visa on HYD or any other indian airport no worries | ||

They can arrange passport in a day. And you can get on arrival visa in india.. you can request on arrival visa online and take the confirmation and show when you land in airport. 1)Book the passport appointment first day in the morning tomorrow and get passport. 2) apply on arrival indian visa for kid online and print confirmation 3) buy ticket for tomorrow and fly. | ||

For passport, call US authorities, they usually arrange the passport in a matter of 2 days in a proven emergency but here the subject of loss is grand father which may not as important as an immediate blood relative in the eyes of US authorities, you need to prove a strong case. In any event, reaching India before the grandpa's funeral would be a real tough option. On the same page, I always get these things ASAP(for my kids, I did get the Birth certificate, SSN in less then a month and then passport in another month. Then applied for PIO card immediately. All done in 3 months of birth. You never know what comes with the next hour.. Few time taking things needs to be initiated at an earliest possible time). Your friend's situation is a next best example why. | ||
