BW is never a functional its pure technical job but they termed it as Functional

Functionals are FI/MM/SD

parts of FI are sub divided into CA/AR/AP/PA/CO/AA etc etc

again each division is industry specific

Simillarly MM and SD

HANA is basically upgraded version of BW tools alage HANA also integrates other technical aspects of SAP like ABAP and some BASIS

Finally HANA uses same old Functional Concepts on BW/BI reporting in much nicer fashion

EOD learn Functionality of the company, hanas/bws/fis/sd/mms etc are just part of it

Earlier it was R/2, R/3, ECC, EHP now its S4.

The major difference is S4 completely built on in memory platform apart from that they added some modern delivery methods to reduce complexity, FIORI,Cloud ,Internet of things, big data business etc etc.
which helps user experience, real time analytics and fast business decision making and simple delivery

Coming to your point current SAP functional modules wont change in terms of functionality. SD,MM,ABAP,HR etc the functionality remains same whether is S4 or S5 but there may be few changes will happen it doesn't impact functionality.

Ex: sales order creation is VA01 in R/2, R/3, S4 or whatever it remains same
in S4 you can enter through Fiory

Earlier SAP completely depends on ORACLE Data Base but now it built its own data base called HANA DB. At present ERP, CRM, SRM, SCM and PLM have separate systems. with S4 HANA all will come under one system which reduces complexity

you don't need worry about roles gone,, you just need upgrade the skills to HANA

HANA is not just a DB, its a platform which integrated all modules
ABAP on HANA roles for ABAPers
BW on HANA for BW guys
HANA studio for both BW and ABAPers
HANA Admin for basis and security guys
S4 HANA FOR Functional guys.
Integration R, Analytics, cloud etc, etc
SAP bringing changes slowly.

If you have strong functional or technical skills you don't need to much worry about the changes. functionality remains change whatever changes will happen

As per SAP, they all will be gone by 2025.

I don"t understand hiw these roles will be gone.

BW may be gone. But, how the functional roles will disappear?

Is SAP going to put preconfigured scenarios in S/4 HANA for all the bussiness scenarios?
