Once yoou plug in and the tool gives output, how are you going to analyse, How to draw interpretations, and how are you going to report? These require understanding statistics. Learning programming in R is as simple as learning C or C++. You can master the programming in few weeks. To do analysis on data, one has to apply different techniques of stats & data mining, which requires good foundations starting from elementary probability to statistical methods, data mining, etc. Learning R without these foundations won't help much! Once you learn them, you will understand the ease at which you R can apply. I know python. Coursera lo rice university course sesaa.. I did captsone project as part of the course too. All the articles and big data literature use R,machine learning interchangeably.. so was curious what R does? Also, R ravataniki statistics lo deep knowledge avsarama? will check out the link..thanks | ||

Self learning and been using R for work too. R is very powerful open source tool and covers most of the methods for data analysis. Licensed versions are not required unless you are at corporates and want to use 2nd generation statistical methods. Python is also good, but the datasets I use are in size of few tens of thousands and R is good for my purposes. I use Python for applying few data mining techniques.
