These kind of methods are outlined to drive people to read something which will benifit a person a lot. How you read it when you read it is upto you. Basic concept is you will need to understand the internal concept of these puranas which will help in day to day life a lot. Do we think we can get the grasp the meaning of ramayana in one month? Never. It will just make you start. Once you get the hang of it you will not stop. Thats how these are designed. Absolutely there is no formal way to read Ramayana. Get into it, have a feel of it, and enjoy the joy. The formalities are designed to get you focused,. Dont get into those. Each word by Rama, Hanuman are like ocean depth meaning into them. Madi is where one maintain external to mind purity. People believe that if body is pure, mind will be pure. usual (peddalu cheppina vidhanam) to do Sri ramayana parayanam is Start with Sundara kanDa and then start from baala kaanDa and finsih until yudhdha kaanDa. then do pattabhisheka sarga. However just reading the Sanskrit slokas in telugu/english and tatparyams in telugu/english would do good?? NO IMO. read each and every sloka leisurely... think over those sloka/sarga. Why maharshi said this? what r the reasons behind it? as you finish reading each kaanDa listen to verses by eminents like Sri Chaganti, Samavedam etc., on these kaanDa. They tell the vedantic and other secrets behind those slokas. Then it will impring in your manasu. Yea this process takes long time but is very beneficial.
