people are migrating to TX, NC. It is ok, if you decide to send top 20 univs (which are private) and save some cost from housing and spend for univ education because without financial aid we are looking at 200K to 400K expenses. but it does not make sense, if you decide to send to top public univs. both TX and NC have only ONE public univ among top 50 univs, and it could be difficult to get into them. CA state has 6 public univs among top 50 univ. so migrating to CA makes sense for me than TX or NC. | ||

most private schools dont even participate in the ranking systems.any list will show TJ school in virginia or some random school in texas as the best high school in the country. they will not show philip exeter academy or the college prep school or harker academy. these schools are way beyond what you get in a public school. some of the faculty have PhDs and the kids are fantastically well rounded. the syllabus is gruelling. they get into elite cliques quite ahead of many of us and those bonds stay for life. just like Doon school or rishi valley or even HPS kids. in any case, it comes down to the kid. if the kid is average to above avg, send them to a private school. very smart - any school does not matter really. | ||

this totally not acceptable. (a) per year we are wasting 10-15K money for school which you cant expect a single penny back (b) bad neighborhood (c) can't guarantee that private schools will be that great. you can spend extra 100K on the home which may be recovered mostly if RE is stable and even if RE is down you dont lose that 100K. Better buy expensive home in a good school district. | ||
